Performing the intimate, making political fiction through writing and performance.

Performing the intimate
As part of her visit to Brussels for her performance Plutôt vomir que faillir at the Théâtre National (co-produced by Kaaitheater), Cifas has invited Rébecca Chailllon to lead a five-day workshop for artists in all fields of work. With Plutôt vomir que faillir (Rather vomit than fail) as an exercise in autofiction, the director invites participants to take their intimacy and their bodies as a starting point for creating political fiction through writing and performance.
Use our bodies as a map to be captioned, to fall within an even larger territory. Use our skin, our limbs, our curves, our fluids like so many hollows and bumps in which we walk. It is difficult and enjoyable. Enjoy the things that grow and regrow within us and around us. And, if possible, set about making political fiction out of our intimacy, writing ourselves live, with vulnerability and omnipotence. A story within history. Painting the world around us, mapping it using the tools of writing, performance and all the knowledge we possess, both noble and ignoble. Thinking of the body as political, to break out of the shackles of the institutional body.
Rébecca Chaillon
Rébecca Chaillon is a director, performer and author, a member of the RER Q collective and a Scorpio Taurus rising. She fights like she breathes, loves debates and performing naked. Her family: the Dans le Ventre company. Made confident by Rodrigo Garcia, she has been working since 2014 on performative shows in which she is on stage, alone, with 2 or 11 people, but always there. To tackle systems of domination through women's football (Où la chèvre est attachée, il faut qu'elle broute.) or write an Afrofuturist tale where black women are at the centre (Carte Noire nommée Désir). Rébecca Chaillon loves to tell stories of desire, hunger, violence and the body with love, humour and food.
