Constellations 2025
- workshop
Co-learning programme for artists of all disciplines with a project in progress around performing art in the city.
For two days a month between January and April 2025, a group of around 10 artists will discuss their respective practices, based on the sharing of a particular question that they raise in their work.
The programme is organised around the presentation of prototypes (a short artistic proposal that allows an idea to be tested without becoming attached to it), which will then be looked at, worked on, dissected, loved and cherished by the whole group during feedback sessions.
Constellations is also a laboratory for thinking about performing arts in the city and trying to sketch out the contours of the notions of public space and situated artistic practices. As well as supporting individual projects, it is also a collective trajectory, nurtured by the diversity of perspectives, backgrounds and disciplines present within the group.
Anna Rispoli
Once again, Cifas is inviting Anna Rispoli as the artist in dialogue (or, if you like, the North Star) to lend her perspective to the artists in the group and put their respective projects into perspective.
Alongside the collective feedback sessions, she will be initiating a cross-disciplinary dialogue based on her own artistic research. Following on from With love not for love, Anna Rispoli will share her questions about the form of the assembly as an exploration of the counter-institutional, protesting and transformative dimensions of public space and time.
What does it mean to create an assembly in public space?
How can we question the dynamics of representation already at work, for example in the street (physical public space), in an institution (wider public sphere) or in collaboration between heterogeneous groups?
How can we, as artists, prefigure and co-create alternative futures?
We will also be looking at questions related to possible alliances, ethical awareness of asymmetries (class, gender, race, power relations), pleasure in activism and performance as a constitutive act, capable of proposing and embodying new forms of social and political organisation.
In short, Constellations is a tool to:
- strengthen and extend your own working methodologies
- discover other possible ways of writing
- give and receive feedback
- explore and refine issues specific to creating in public space
- discover other artists and share practices
- strengthen artistic solidarity in a sector still based on competition
For whom:
- For artists with all levels of experience who have a project in process in the performing arts, all disciplines combined, questioning the city and/or public space.
- We value diversity of artistic practices and perspectives.
- We encourage applications from artists from socio-economic and cultural backgrounds that are under-represented in the Brussels arts sector.
- The group will be selected with an awareness of the structural oppression and invisibilisation of people and communities who are discriminated against for reasons of class, race, gender, physical and mental ability.
